EditPurpose
To enter all of the tax codes that apply to your clients. Example: LA could be a code for Las Angeles County; and you can define the tax percentage for that county.

Your company can have clients in any state in the country. Each state, even each county within the state, may have a different tax rate. As administrator, you can define tax codes for the various rates; these codes will be used by the different features of LegalSuite.
EditView Tax Codes
To view a list of tax codes currently defined in LegalSuite, make the menu selection
Administration⇒System Codes⇒Tax Codes from the navigation bar.

To view information regarding a specific tax code, click on a code on the list. The Tax Code Details page will appear with details regarding that code. Refer to the section on
"Add a Tax Code" for an explanation of each field displayed on that page.
EditAdd A Tax Code
To add a new tax code, click on the ADD NEW ENTRY button on the Tax Codes page.

All fields marked with an asterisk "*" are required.
1. Tax Code* - Enter in a tax code. Example: SC can stand for Santa Clara County)
2. State* - Select a state from the pull-down menu that the tax rate applies to.
3. Tax* - Enter a percentage value for the tax rate. Example: The tax rate for Santa Clara County is 8.25%.
4. Description - Enter a description if needed.
5. Click on the SAVE button to create the new tax code. Click on the CANCEL button to discard your changes.
EditEdit an Existing Tax Code
1. Select a tax code to edit.
There are two ways in which you can select a tax code:
- From the Tax Codes page - if you are viewing the list of tax codes, click on the "Edit" link for that tax code.
- From the Tax Code Details page - if you are viewing the details for a tax code, click on the EDIT DETAILS button on that page.
The Tax Code Details page will appear.
2. Make changes as necessary. Refer to the section "Add a Tax Code" for an explanation of each of the input fields.
3. Click on the UPDATE button to save your changes. Click on the CANCEL button to discard your changes.

EditDelete an Existing Tax Code
1. Select a tax code to delete. Refer to the section "Edit a Tax Code" on how to select a code.
2. The Tax Code Details page will appear. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
3. Click on the DELETE button to remove the tax code from the LegalSuite database.
4. You will be asked to confirm that you wish to delete the code. Click on "OK".
5. The code will be deleted from the LegalSuite database. It will no longer be seen on the Tax Codes page.
